Family Alleges Chicken Was Served as Veg Biryani at Bengaluru Airport
A family alleges that Taste of India at Bengaluru airport served chicken instead of veg biryani, despite the bill marking it vegetarian. Videos and social media reactions have intensified calls for an FSSAI investigation.
Piyush Agrawal shared the incident, stating that his family, including children, had ordered veg biryani from Taste of India, located near Gate 16–17 at Bengaluru airport. According to the account, the family was served a dish they believed to be vegetarian.
However, videos circulating online reportedly show the restaurant's manager and chef confirming that chicken was present in the dish. The bill, meanwhile, listed the order as vegetarian, raising questions about how a non-vegetarian item could have been served against a vegetarian order.
The incident has sparked divided reactions on social media. While some users have questioned the family's account, pointing out that the plate was eaten clean and asking how they could have missed visible chicken pieces or a distinct taste, others have highlighted the seriousness of the alleged mix-up.
Sceptics have also drawn attention to the fact that Taste of India operates as a mixed vegetarian and non-vegetarian outlet, questioning how the family did not identify the contents of the dish while eating.
However, supporters have stressed that serving chicken in place of a vegetarian dish could have serious implications for customers who follow strict religious or dietary restrictions. They have called for the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and airport authorities to investigate the incident and examine how the alleged error occurred.
🚨 URGENT | BENGALURU AIRPORT T1 At Taste of India, Bengaluru Airport T1 (Gate 16–17), our family ordered VEG BIRYANI, clearly mentioned on the bill, but we were served NON-VEGETARIAN FOOD. We are a strictly vegetarian family, and even children unknowingly consumed it. This has caused severe distress and hurt our religious sentiments. 🎥 Videos of our conversation with the restaurant manager & chef are attached. They also confirmed the food was having chicken. Bill and other evidence are also attached. We request FSSAI, Bengaluru Airport and concerned authorities to urgently investigate, check CCTV/order records and take strict action. @fssaiindia @BLRAirport @AirSewaIndia @jagograhakjago @PMOIndia @CMofKarnataka @DKShivakumar @JoshiPralhad @PrashantKej @AakashBansal94

Taste of India has also faced mixed customer reviews, with references to similar food mix-ups in Bengaluru in the past adding to the online scrutiny surrounding the latest allegation.
The controversy has brought attention to the importance of accurate food labelling and order verification, particularly when restaurants serve both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. The calls for an investigation have placed the focus on accountability and safeguards against such alleged incidents.
